Sandy Lost 40 Pounds & Lowered Her A1C

After years of watching her A1C numbers slowly climb, Sandy was worried that her first doctor’s visit after the pandemic would be bad news. And she was right—her A1C numbers had soared. But rather than surrender to prescription medicine, Sandy begged for a chance to lower her A1C test results through weight loss. And then she called Professional Weight Management.

So I’ve lost 40 pounds in, I believe it’s only been five months. And people ask me a lot, how did you lose the weight? And I say, “Well, I stuck to the problem and did the exercise.” You know, there isn’t like a magic thing that you do. You do the program and you exercise. And that’s how I lost it. And really, in a way, it was easy.

I went to the doctor. Hadn’t been for a couple of years, you know, because nobody went to the doctor for a couple of years. And I knew it was coming, but my A1C was very high. It was 9.7.

It had been high another time, and the doctor was going to put me on metformin. I had tried metformin another time and it really upset my stomach. And even though she said she could try something else, I just begged her to let me try to lose weight because I felt like the A1C would come down if I lost weight. So she said she would give me three months and then have me have it tested again.

I'm kind of a structured person. I mean, I like structure and you know, they told you exactly what was the right thing to eat that would help you to lose weight. So I like that part. The staff here is been very helpful to me and really made me feel comfortable and they were encouraging. And of course I did lose weight every time, but they always seemed like they were very excited when I lost weight, as much as I was.

Sometimes I'm a little bit talkative and sometimes, you know, we would even talk about things that I didn't think had that much to do with weight. But I realize they're what makes you eat or not eat, especially since just last week we took my granddaughter to college and I did have a little break down day. But and I realized that was emotional, you know, eating. And so maybe talking to her more about just, you know, my family—I realized that's really support towards what you're eating and things like that.

So I've lost 40 pounds. I believe it's only been five months. And people ask me a lot, how did you lose the weight? And I say, “Well, I stuck to the problem and did the exercise.” You know, there isn’t like a magic thing that you do. You do the program and you exercise. And that's how I lost it. And really, in a way, it was easy. I felt like it was easy.

I had her rerun my blood work and my A1C was down from 9,7 to 5.7. That was really the reason I made the decision to come was my health. And of course you do want to lose weight to look good, but really at this stage in my life, it's more about health.

I think now I'm on maintenance. Actually, I still lost a few pounds on the maintenance. Oh, also, I'm kind of a snacker and the snacks—I even did Weight Watchers at one point and their snacks were okay, but these snacks actually taste like candy bars. And so that really helped me because I was a little bit of a snacker and so I could eat one of those snacks. And I always have one in my purse. My grandkids are in all kinds of sports. And, you know, you go there, there's nothing good in a concession stand that would be healthy for you to eat. And I always just carried those snacks with me. And while everyone was having something else that may not be been on the program. I was able to eat those snacks and that really helped me.

One thing I remember that she said the first day—If you do the program, you will lose weight.
